Newts and salamanders (Caudata) are a group of amphibians that include about 10 subgroups and 470 species. Newts and salamanders have a long, slender body, a long tail, and usually two pairs of limbs. They inhabit cool, shady habitats and are most active during the night. Newts and salamanders are silent amphibians, they do not croak or make loud sounds like frogs and toads. Of all amphibians, newts and salamanders most closely resemble the earliest fossil amphibians, the earliest animals to have adapted to life on land. All salamanders and newts are carnivorous. They feed on small invertebrates such as insects, worms, snails, and slugs. Many species of newts and salamanders have poison glands in their skin which helps to protect them against predators. The skin of newts and salamanders is smooth and lacks scales or hair. It acts as a surface through which respiration can take place (oxygen is absorbed, carbon dioxide is released) and for this reason it must stay moist. This means newts and salamanders are restricted to damp or wet habitats to ensure their skin never dries out. During the larval stage, many species of newts and salamanders have feathery external gills that enable them to breath in water. These gills disappear when the animal matures into the adult form. Many adult newts and salamanders breath using lungs. Some species also absorb oxygen through the surfaces of their mouth and enhance the movement of air or water using buccal pumping, a rhythmic panting that is apparent by the vibration of the animals chin. Moving air and water through the mouth also enables the newt or salamander to sample the odors in the surrounding environment. Our plan was to go to McDonalds and use the drive thru to order our order, but the catch is that I was supposed to walk to the drive thru with no car just me standing there ordering my order and when they said to pull up to the next widow I would just walk to the window and pay and walk to the other window to get my order. In every news story the writer uses the technique of slanting and charged language. These techniques are used to persuade the reader to view the issue in the way the writer sees it. Both articles that I have found have the many things that are alike, but they have different slants to them. The Jerusalem Post and the Washington Post stated who all was killed, and what each person was doing when they were killed. Both articles stated the fact that the mother was on the phone with her ex-husband when she and her sons were murdered. Also both stressed the fact that everyone in that community has always had good ties with their Arab neighbors inside of outside of their community. Even though both articles state many of the same facts they do this in different ways. To start off the title of the Jerusalem Post is â€Å"Israel vows retaliation for deaths of five in kibbutz carnage†. The title comes off as being vengeful. I feel that by this title that the people of this community want to seek revenge on the people who did this horrible act of hatred. In the body of the article I felt as if the writer wanted the reader to know just the bare facts about the events that occurred. For example the article states the facts about each person and how they were killed. In the article it told you how the mother was reading her sons a bed time story when he came in the room and shot all three of them to death (â€Å"Israel Vows†).
